December 25..Christmas Dinner Thai Cooking School style

STEVE IS REALLY GETTING INTO HIS MORTAR AND PESTLE CURRY PASTE

Greetings from Chiang Mai …the day after Christmas, Thai time.   Yesterday we decided to spend Christmas day preparing our own feast at the THAI FARM COOKING SCHOOL which is so highly rated on Trip Advisor…for good reason! We were picked up by the school at our guesthouse with 8 other students and first brought to a beautiful local market to learn about the ingredients we would be using.  Our teacher “Kook” or “Kookie” was a gem and so full of energy and jokes.  Her routine was well rehearsed but that was part of the charm.

AT THE MARKET, KOOK DESCRIBES HOW TO MAKE COCONUT CREAM

We then were whisked off to the beautiful school on a working farm outside of the city and given a tour of the property and the the produce we would be using in the potager style garden adjoining the house.  You will see a little bit of the garden in my video below.

EACH OF THE 10 STUDENTS HAS THEIR OWN COOKING STATION

The day was a full one as we each got to choose 5 dishes to prepare and eat from 15 choices.  We were as stuffed a Christmas goose by the time we left we could hardly get back in the truck.  It was an incredibly fun and long day that cost about 30 USD per person!!! What a deal!!  The photos below will have more info on the full sized image describing the ingredients etc.  It was the perfect feast shared with new friends from all over the world.  Merry Christmas everyone!!!
