10-08-09 Shopping the Market and the Pont du Gard

Our drive today through Arles and neighboring hilltowns in the South of France

Wow our internet connection is terrible today and we really need to get on the road to Cassis which is on the coast.  We only have today and tomorrow morning to spend there so I think I’ll just post a few pix with little annotation for now.  I tried 5 times /2 hours of frustration and decided it’s best to wait till the connection improves (hopefully) at our new B and B.

The photos are of our shopping excursion in Saint Remy’s Wednesday market..AWESOME…and the Pont Du Gard which is the oldest and most perfect example of a Roman aquaduct.  Almost like the Cistern in Istanbul but above ground.  It was a highlight of the daY.  wILL POST MORE LATER IN THE DAY!!

Diana, the last of Vinnies ashes are now by this fountain…the lion on the fountain seemed a good sign this was the place to put them.  Van Gogh would have spent a lot of time at this place, painting and creating

“But I could have told you Vincent, this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you”

I was wondering what happened to you guys!! Thought the wine may have had some effects, LOL!!!
Sure, sure, blame it on the internet, heehee….. Have a safe trip to Cassis!! I’m anxiously awaiting your arrival there… Did you see those fields of sunflowers???? Mmmm, I remember the “sausages”… Stopped at a “farm stand” that had rows of it hanging… needed to use the ladies room there only to find a “hole in the ground” around back…. wasn’t expecting that!!! LOL!!
Those hammocks look so cool… Ahhhh, vive la france!!!

    HI Sandra,
The lion fountain is such a perfect spot for Vinnie…
The aqueduct pictures are spectacular. The picture of the lone tree is phenomenal…a visual oxymoron! The trunk of the tree provides such a powerfull, solid feeling while the braches and leaves above are so light and airy. It makes me think of how one hopes to raise children…with roots and wings.
    Lots of Love, Lois 🙂

Hey all!!! We r in cassis and having a blast on the coast. I wrote a blog post but am having a hard time accessing my pix. I’ll keep trying till I need to go to bed If not we will find an Internet cafe in the am and try that way

those bee thingies are cicadas. If you haven’t seen a cicada before I’m certain you’ve heard them the make the loud buZzing sound in the trees in late summer

cicadas are a symbol of the harvest in the south of France with their likeness on everything from lavender scented soaps to iron doorstops Im looking for some beads or pendants with cicadas on them

What a beautiful area. You got some fabulous pictures, I can’t wait to see them all when you get home! I love that Van Gogh tree, it must be so cool to see his inspiration in that area. The lion is a very fitting place for The Impressionist.
    Love ya!

Speaking of Cicadas, i have several outer casings of them and one complete dead one in a box for my little nephew who studies and hunts bugs. He has a big collection by now. we find the empty shells of them in the yard ……very awesome looking bug with beautiful lacy wings. Sandy, if you want a bag of them i can send you some….hehehe. then you could study them and make your own beads!!!! they sure make a loud whine, which we used to think was the telephone wires!!!

That pic odf the lone tree, very meaningful indeed, with it’s twisted trunk and full brances< Strength, beauty and wholsomeness!
I also want that dress but the pink top in the background also very cool too! SO MUCH Lavender! Bet it smeeled great! The pics of the aqueducts and surrounding areas, make me have just one more reason to want to go there!
And last but not least RIP Vinnie, what a most righteous place to be put to rest, protected by the great Lion!
