So what to do on a 10 hour flight???? This leg to amsterdam is Long but somehow time flies. Pardon the terrible pun!!!
Now before u form a mob and holler “those spoiled brats. …..keep in mind we have steves Hard earned IBM road trip frequent flyer miles to thank for the business class upgrades on this journey
We have the ultimate seats too. First row on the plane and no neighbors!
Ok. The dinner menu… Are u ready for this??? First courses were a marinated shrimp cocktail ,tomato blue cheese bisque. And a baby romaine, heirloom tomato and blue cheese salad
Main course a filet mignon medium rare. Sweet potato cottage fries and sAuteed zucchini
OMG THESE PHOTOS MAKE THE FOOD LOOK DISGUSTING!! HONEST!! IT LOOKED AND TASTED GREAT!!
Dessert was your choice of a Guggenheim icecream sundae or fresh fruit on skewers with nummy cheese wedges
OMG. And all the good wine you can drink. We both had to say NO MORE After two glasses but wanted to partake of more. Wine is no good for jet lag
So now after lights out on a full tummy and a warm buzz we were both lucky to have slept for about six hours and here comes the food again.Omlets and pastries and Orange Juice OH MY!!!!! Nooooooo!!! It’s all so good but we are still digesting our steaks. It was hard to take a “pass” on breakfast but we had no choice!!
It looks like we have about 1/2 hour before we land so I will sign off for now and send this as soon as we get settled in at the 8 hour Amsterdam airport layover
ABOVE…WE ARE HERE AT THE KLM LOUNGE IN AMSTERDAM!! WE ARRIVED AROUND NOON
Having spotty WI FI connections here so I’ll sign off for the time being and post more before we leave here for Cairo. This next leg of the flight is only about 4 hours and is 2000 miles from Amsterdam to Cairo. Steve says this is a bit farther than our flight from Portland Oregon to Minneapolis on Friday. Do you visualize Cairo Egypt /Africa being so close to Amsterdam?? Even with me being a geography buff it just seems “wrong” somehow.
I apologize for the not so great photos…they will get much better when we actually have some light and subject matter other than an airplane or lounge to shoot. When we get to our hotel in Cairo we can load some of the wedding photos too and post a few from the good camera.
Talk to you all in a bit!! Hugs..Sandra and Steve and Bling and Mini B!!!
oh my gosh, I am already jealous and your trip has just begun! LOL
Have fun. Glad the wedding was a success as well 😉
Hi Sanday,
Only YOU could make flying sound like such a positive experience! Maybe you were still “flying high” (pardon the pun) from the wedding! No, just kidding – glad to know it was such a great start to your trip. Love, Jan
I have been lucky enough to benefit from all of Richard’s business trips too with those fabulous plane upgrades from frequent flier miles. Yummy food and comfort! Unfortunately, we weren’t able to do that when traveling to Israel…that plane ride really could have used the upgrade!
Hope everything on your trip is first class fun!
Lots of Love, Lois 🙂
Hi Jan and Lois!! Jan I laughed out loud in the lounge when I read your comment and everyone turned around..lol! Flying High probably describes it best!! Between the wedding, and preparing for so long for this trip…it was just so awesome to finally get the show on the road!
Of course I had Bling, Mini B to keep me company and I designed a lot of jools in my sketch pad enroute. Love to design while I fly. Would anyone like to see any of the sketches as we go along?
There were rhe cutest little “Danish Modern” mini salt and pepper shakers on each dinner
tray. that are now the basis for a pendant and earring set!!
Lois, I know……………..we are now officially out of FF miles for a while . We spent the last ones on Bryan and Kate’s honeymoon tickets to Lisbon and Barcelona in January so poor Steve take on the overseas trips again for work to help accumulate more miles. Sometimes I think it’s cheaper in the long haul to just purchase the tickets. Those business trips are grueling and he rarely sees more than the airport and hotel and the inside of a taxi.
Wow Elise…., I don’t know why your post didnt show up before on my computer but now it’s here!! I’m so happy to have you here to keep me company!! Wish you all could be here in person!! Then we could wake up this stupid stuffy business lounge and show them what travel adventure is all about…PARTAY at the KLM LOUNGE~~~~~ You should see the bar..free booze!!!! I’m buying!!!!!
Too bad I’m so sick with a stupid head cold that even wine doesn’t sound good at the moment. I think that stupid Typhoid vaccine might have triggered it. I felt yucky from the moment I took the first pill…just mildly yucky but enuf to be annoying on a huge vacation like this. This too shall pass….,pass the Kleenex~
Hi Sandy! I hope you feel better SOON! Am enjoying your posts and I would LOVE to see your sketches!
Hi Kristin!!!!Thank you for the well wishes. If I don’t get any worse I can deal with this as long as I don’t eat for a day and drink tons of water. I’m just so glad we have tomorrow reserved to relax a full day before we scheduled our private guide to view the pyramids etc. Cross your fingers this is just a short term bug!!
Cool!! I’ll post some of the sketches as we go along then!!!! Kiss Mz Sienna for me.
Have fun in Amsterdam and a safe trip to Cairo! Love your photos 🙂
After reading all your notes and with pictures it seems like you are still here. We really had a nice visit and the wedding and all.Looks like you won’t have any problem getting good food . Have some pretty good ideas going in the pottery shop today. The weather turned quite chilly. Love ya
if you could handle a hot toddy maybe that would help this bug you have!!! i will say a prayer that its only a 24 hour thing. Maybe you can find out from other travelers some remedies for post typhoid pill yuckies. meanwhile, pass over that omelet …..it looks huge! the food sounds good! wow! I see Mom has some stuff going in the pottery shop already!!! i know you two are gonna come up with some unique creations together!!! show us the sketches you are doing! if i were flying i would be sketching most of the time. i always do that on road trips and seem to come up with some awesome ideas!
Hi Sandra! I’ve been following your travels so far- your upgraded flight to Amsterdam is the only way to fly! My boyfriend travels a ton for work so we benefit from his miles and upgrade our flights when we can (it’s great, isn’t it?). I’m excited to see your pictures from Egypt, Turkey, and France.
Congratulations to Bryan and Kate! I’ll be in touch soon.
Your panda friend,
Carrie
Hugs to both you & Steve. Love all the posts–love more the pics. I remember our ‘sleep’. Propping our feet up on the bulkhead!!! I’m jealous! Can’t wait for more pics. Back from our Colorado trip. Poor Connie had a headache alot of the time—I kept pushing water and gatorade. Just remember Sandra—-WATER-WATER-WATER. OK—Maybe a little wine!
Diana
Happy Birthday Steve, what a great way to spend you day!
Glad that part of your flight went well and the food was good (and the wine too). Thank goodness for those FF Miles, makes a big difference sometimes! You guys deserve it, have a blast!
Can’t think of a better way to pass the time than sketching, Would love to see what you came up with. I would have to have my IPod with me too though, music, wine and sketching PERFECTO!
