Teeny blackish/red squirrel in the garden...ADORABLE!!!
The reflection of my bird feeders and garden is in his eye!! I was able to get within a foot of this itsy bitsy squirrel!!! He’s very different than our red or grey squirrels

This little critter is the first I have ever seen like him in 10 years living in Portland. From a distance he looks almost black and is no more than 8" long in the body with his tail being about the same.
He is EXTREMELY tame and took a peanut from me today! When he scampers up the fence he doesn't jump to the top like other squirrels..he clings to the flat boards like "velcro"...reminds me of a woodpecker hopping up a tree.
So..if anyone can identify him I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you silverwolf for trying.
OH..I think I found what he is!!! A Douglas Squirrel ...which would make sense as they live mostly in the Pacific NW where we are!!

Interesting. I am in Tn and someone told me it was a fox squirrel, but he looks very similiar to your douglas squirrel. Once I get some pics I will post them.Thank you for the info.
awesome pic, been trying to find species on google, Looking cause I have one, but not grey or red.
