I think they grow in most zones and come in dozens of varieties. Here's one blooming right now with a longer burgundy leaf -- Seen on your photo stream. (?)

I just planted these in my rockymountain region garden, and they are HAPPY. They love the extremes....and very waterwise plants, I might add. Nice photo!
