In the slideshow you will see some images I took while in Chiang Mai Thailand showing our guide Sgt. Kai and us releasing a bird and fish that we purchased at the market who were intended for the dinner pot.
The concept of “making merit” by performing good deeds is a central element of Buddhist tradition and practice Sgt Kai tells us. What a thrill to drive outside of the bustling city market to search out a rice paddie for our sweet bird who’s feet were tethered to the bottom of the basket with a rubber band. As we let her go she disappeared so fast she was gone in a blink!!
The fish were equally as happy to be set free…they had been in a leaking bag for at least 45 minutes with no water for 15 minutes of that time. Sgt Kai and Diana climbed down the steep bank to the river and set the 7 fish free one by one as I took the photos!
I will never forget this incredible experience or the kindness and expertise that Sgt. Kai offered that day. This necklace contains many treasures found on this exact day in time as well as the color palette of the inspiration photos in the slideshow
