Oh Eve, you've got the dress in leaves thing all wrong! LOL! Hi Sandra, here in South Africa each and every productive banana tree is actually chopped right off after bearing it's fruit. The method works as such: Mother tree = tree bearing fruit this year, Grand mother = stump from previous year and Daughter tree = young shoot growing at the foot of the mother tree to bear fruit next year! Phew! And there is a whole lesson for you on banana trees and their crops!
