Gorgeous bird in Botswana Africa

Lilac Breasted Roller

Coracias caudata

This bird blew Steve and I away. We saw the Mauve Breasted Roller in a few different locations in Botswana but this morning around 9:00 AM the light struck this handsome ffella who was preening his plumage. He was totally relaxed and enjoying the sun.

I had to use the 400mm lens and he filled the frame perfectly. I feel SO blessed to be able to capture such an image with my really cruddy eye. To see this on the computer monitor was one of the highlights of the trip!!!!

Great shot! How did you get him to fluff out his feathers? That really adds to the shot, plus the lighting is great.

It's by the way a lilac breasted Roller Coracias caudata. Could you perhaps tag these names also to the picture?

Thank you so much everyone!!! I couldn't believe the color on this beauty and he just sat there and posed for me. I had to use the 400mm lens but was able to fill the frame nicely . Thank you for reminding me to post the name and tag it teunissen. I was in a hurry when I loaded it and zoned it out
