Pandamonium in Chengdu

The trip of a lifetime I’ll tell you!! I am a jewelry designer on a mission!! I arranged months ahead of our trip to get to have my photo taken with the pandas at the Panda Base in Chengdu China as a part of my "PANDANT" (pendants for pandas) project.

Of course this visit quickly became a life altering experience and I am now immersed in my panda designs with 25% or more from each fused glass creation going to my panda adoption fund. NOTE: the full 6000.00 has been offically raised as of 12/07

I am returning to Chengdu in Feb. 08 to adopt my panda who I named "Jewel" or Bao Shi in Mandarin

This is Siyuan…a very special girl with white on her paws…around 18 months of age. I had never seen a panda in real life..not even in a zoo or panda cam so this was really a special moment in my travels to say the least!

WOW - what a great photo - the panda looks so big here - course on the other hand I still think of Tai Shan as a little baby and he is 18 months old - and probably just as big! Thanks so much for sharing your photos - we are all pandaholics here :-)

Welcome to the group. This is a amazing photo, to be so near one of these precious animals. Did she offer to share her boo with you?

Hi everyone!! Thanks a whole bunch for looking at my pix!!! Yes this was one big gal!!! Here are more of the panda pix for those of you who didn't see the Chengdu albums yet tinyurl.com/yj2tdx Her head was as big as my pillow and her fur as coarse as the mane of a horse!!! Very shiny..very healthy. The Chengdu pandas were so incredibly healthy and active. When in Beijing we saw a few pandas at the zoo and were disappointed in contrast to Chengdu. They were not in bad shape....just not as wonderful as the Panda Base. They looked like an entirely different species in Beijing..long and narrow. Oh and buttercake56....her boo...she tossed her head at me when I even dared to look at her eating..it was so funny!

Thanks you guys! agateman69...yes I have a healthy respect for the animals thats for sure. When I saw the size of that head next to mine I kept an arms length away. The only English speaking keeper kept saying "whatever you do...don't touch her ears". Boy did I want to touch those ears after that! LOL

I'm so jealous! I went there years ago but didn't get to get so close! I vote for this photo in the Lonely Planet Publications group's "My Best Travel Moment" challenge
