Today started like any other Sunday but quickly morphed into a wine adventure of a very unique kind!!  With a Facebook nudge from  Tom and Kate of DIVISION WINE MAKING COMPANY we didn't skip a beat and answered their call for helpers. Little did we know they had a film and sound crew on site recording the merriment to do a fun promotion covering this year's harvest from start to finish!! Next week the first grapes will most likely be picked

Harvest is just around the corner and DWC is quickly preparing to make it a great one!You must be thinking, "how can I help?" That's a great question and an easy answer. We would love to have a few volunteers to give a little bit of their time during a few critical moments during the grape harvest

It's not a complete donation though, because hanging out with Tom and Kate and their group of merry pranksters often involves food, libations and entertainment easily worth a few hours of time. There will also be prizes!!  Are you still interested?!?

First up, next Sunday October 16th around 1pm-3pm. We need 2 or 3 volunteers to assist us taking berry samples at one of our vineyards to help determine when to pick them.
And there's an enticement! We're going to make this somewhat of a contest (rules to be given on site), which we will award the winner with 2 bottles of Division wine (a $45 value). Do we sound like a game show yet??

SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADIEU, CELEBRATE THIS FUN DAY WITH US THROUGH THE PHOTOS BELOW. Lots of fun fun photos in the slideshow at the bottom of this blog post. Steve was one of the "contestants" in this wine promo as I sat by the sidelines and photographed, sampled the incredible ripe grapes and laughed till my stomach hurt.

SOME OUTFITS SIMPLY SHOULDN'T BE WORN TO BEER FESTIVALS…THIS IS ONE OF THEM!! FRIENDS LESLIE AND BOB

We had such a wonderful time yesterday at two Portland festivals.  The first just Steve and I went to in the morning and it was called THE WEDGE

Unbelievable artisan cheeses from all over the western U.S.  We were impressed with the variety of unique goat, sheep and cows milk creations and purchased a few  for savoring later on  with a great bottle of wine

This hand painted chow featured the city of Portland and was MY colors too. A moooooooving experience at THE WEDGE
 
 
Of course what is a cheese festival without  our infamous local Tillamook creamery representin!!! Love this VW!!!
 
 
We couldn't leave without purchasing this lovely blue cheese!!! Perfectly stinky and delicious !!
 
 
Olympic Provisions were also there with their mouth watering salami's and sausage

Now on to Steves favorite part of the day!!  The FRESH HOP TASTIVAL
This fest featured dozens of delicious locally brewed beers spiced up with freshly picked hops

 

 

 

 

 
Steve in his element.  I even have learned to enjoy an occasional beer since the boom of micro breweries in PDX
 
 
I met a great little lab names "Hanna" who lost her leg in an accident. She is a rescue and so sweet!
 
 
I caught a great casual photo of our friends Leslie and Mohan who met up with us.  We took a nice walk on a refurbished railroad track by the river. It was a perfectly perfect relaxing day.  Today it's raining…….oh well, I need to clean the house and shop for groceries anyway!  Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!!!!

And last but not least….while I had the camera out I had to show you all my largest banana leaf on my 2 year old plant!  The plant will die back in a few weeks anyway so I picked it to steam a fish in and Steve took a photo yesterday morning.   I plan to divide my bananas next year and plant the "pups" all over the place. I adore these trees!!!

We had a wonderful afternoon today just taking our time visiting 2 of our favorite wineries….Belle Pente and Brickhouse. The CRIMSON CLOVER you see is grown often as a cover crop to be plowed in to enrich the soil for later crops of vegetables etc. It’s a sight to behold every May in Oregon and is part of the reason for our roadtrip to the valley today.

Unfortunately both of my DSLR Canon cameras are  in being repaired right now (hope to get at least one of them back this week) , so it gave me a good solid reason to bring along the new CANON S95 I purchased January in Hong Kong.   While nothing can really compare to the speed and final images from my big cameras, this little gem really does take a nice photo I have to admit.  The color was very accurate as everything was electric green and crimson pink in person ….just like you see in the pix.
