MY FIRST FIELD TRIP WITH THE NEW CAMERA..CLICK PHOTO ABOVE.  THERE IS AUDIO

Cameras are one of my passions and something that never became an integral part of my artwork until “digital” came along.  The instant gratification that comes along with seeing your images within moments of capturing them , is right up my alley.  I never was a good one for waiting to have prints developed, and don’t have the extra room to do film processing myself.

YOURS TRULY …WAY BACK WHEN

I never once thought I would get hooked on cameras but I’m a hopeless addict.  Each bigger, badder, better Canon camera that hits the shelves, I yearn for and start saving my money like crazy until I can lay cash down on the table for it at our  PRO PHOTO SUPPLY

BELOW I’VE EMBEDDED A NUMBER OF RESOURCES , REVIEWS AND IMAGES OF THE 7D

This baby is not a point and shoot by any means but worth the big learning curve

My CANON 40D is not that old but I just keep wanting to move ahead with my photography, and my special needs with my eyes were a perfect match to this new and innovative auto focus system on the 7D.  Wow I’m glad I got it now before we go on our next vacation.  It will take me a couple of months to program all the customizable “bells and whistles” . I”m so excited I can hardly stand it!

My  trusty 40 D will now be hanging off one shoulder with my macro or wide angle lens, the new 7D over the other with my zoom.  Now I need to start saving for a tag along masseuse to keep my shoulders in shape to carry these cameras, gear, my stick and a backpack.  If I fall over I’ll be like a turtle on it’s back!

BELOW….THESE YELLOW BAGS MAKE ME DROOL.  THERE  IS USUALLY A NEW CAMERA INSIDE!!

I am so excited to have found this new media to reproduce my original art on and make them available to you.  I have been seeing these aluminum art prints showing up in some of the fine art galleries and town and got curious….enough to seek out a professional service and invest in some sample artworks.

Wow I’m sure glad I took the plunge and made the investment!!  This is some of the finest printing I have ever laid my eyes on and used one of my most colorful and contrasty images to get the most from my test order.  The colors are incredible…even more vibrant than on canvas or paper.  See my video description below but keep in mind it is low quality video.  The still images are very accurate in showing off depth of color and detail.

Above is the side view showing the beautiful hanging system

Aluminum printing represent a new art medium for preserving photos by infusing dyes directly into specially coated aluminum sheets. Because the image is infused into the surface and not on it, your images will take on an almost magical luminescence. Metal Prints are available in 3 different surfaces: High Gloss, Satin, and Sheer with a Glossy or Matte finish. You’ve never seen a more brilliant and impressive print! Colors are vibrant and the luminescence is breathtaking.

Another view of the back.  I will be offering the Aluminum Print option soon on my website for most of my artwork. I can’t wait to order some new larger pieces for my house and Steves office!! What a sleek and vibrant look…just like a gallery wall

Its been a while since my last blog post…..you know how it is this time of year with so much going on in the garden, the new puppy entertaining me at every turn, company visiting and new ideas bursting forth into bloom in the studio!!!  I have so much to catch up with you all on, but will take it, one “announcement” at a time to keep things easy to absorb!

FIRST IS THE NEW WEBSITE…CLICK IMAGE ABOVE TO ACCESS

Starting with images of the most treasured moments of your beautiful companion animals ,I will custom design  a unique masterpiece to  honor that special bond between human kind and the creatures in your world.

TEXT BELOW IF FROM “THE PROCESS” PAGE OF THE WEBSITE

Combining traditional paint techniques and digital manipulation ,the artist creates from the facial expressions backwards.  Sandra truly believes that the soul and life of the painting is in the eyes ,so those must be right  to be able to continue the creation process.

One common misconception about digital art is that it is a  “push a button  and it’s done” medium. While computers are powerful tools, they are unable to mimic the skill, eye and attention to detail of a true artist.

A painting such as this requires days or weeks in front of the computer layering color over sketch , many times using an actual photograph as the basis for the design concept.

Unnecessary elements need to be hand removed with a “paintbrush or eraser” and new details in all cases are added with Sandra’s signature artistic finesse ….one  gentle brush stroke at a time.

Once the basic painting is near completion then the tweeking begins .  For instance bringing forward the main subject by pushing back the backgrounds  as well as  final touches such as adding in a puppy’s favorite toy ,are especially important in personalizing your special portrait

It’s is a time consuming and eye crossing medium that rivals Sandra’s traditional “brush on paper” watercolors in complexity ,while allowing more freedom to create with her limited vision.

Talk about the light of our lives, Mz Gracie has certainly made herself at home and is using her cute edge to the max to get all the oooooh and ahhhhhhhs from everyone she meets! She is even finding Meg and Lillians soft spot and play bows to them when they walk by her ex pen outside my studio window. Check out all the new videos below this post highlighting the cuteness that is GRACIE at 8-9 weeks old!!

Do you all remember my “Snow Bird” from last year?  Well my Anna’s Hummingbird is still hanging around but this time with his wife and brood of 2 chicks from this year.  As the temps have been falling I need to really keep on top of making sure his feeder is not freezing solid and he has adequate shelter close to the feeder.

Another frigid morning (18 degrees) for my Annas Hummingbird

This little fella sits on a vinyl coated wire all day about 2 feet from the feeder or on the Japanese Maple a few feet from my front door.  He never ventures far from the house which I’m sure radiates a bit of heat and cuts the wind.

Hummingbirds have a unique way of keeping warm or conserving their energy – at night, or any time they cannot get enough food to fuel themselves – they go into torpor – a state in which their metabolic rate is only one-fifteenth that of normal sleep….very much like hibernation.

I can walk right up to him in the early morning without him moving a muscle.  I call these beautiful Anna’s humming birds my “tree pickles” or “gerkins” because they are shaped and colored just like one!

My frozen hummingbird feeder

Last night I forgot to bring the feeder in….The red popsicle needed thawing.  When I brought it  back out, 2 hummies buzzed me and landed on the feeder while I was still hanging it up.  I hope I can get Steve to get a photo of them doing that tomorrow!!!  I told my friend today I want to get them each a little match box complete with blankie and hot water bottle for Xmas to sleep in!!

As I write at 6:30 PM the temp is 24 and heading down to a  near record low for Portland this time of year. Brrrrrrr you would never know I was born and raised in Minnesota!  My friends are all laughing at me I’m sure…but keep in mind I only own unlined raincoats  not a single sweater.   I had to really dig to find those photography gloves I bought for Chengdu 2 years ago.   Geeze have I turned into a wimp

So what does one do on a cold week to keep warm???? Created fused glass and finish up some batiks!!

This yummy card and print was inspired by a dog we bred years ago…actually he is Megs litter brother Ike!!   Thank you Bonnie for letting me use his stately likeness to do this rich colored batik
