MY FIRST FIELD TRIP WITH THE NEW CAMERA..CLICK PHOTO ABOVE.  THERE IS AUDIO

Cameras are one of my passions and something that never became an integral part of my artwork until “digital” came along.  The instant gratification that comes along with seeing your images within moments of capturing them , is right up my alley.  I never was a good one for waiting to have prints developed, and don’t have the extra room to do film processing myself.

YOURS TRULY …WAY BACK WHEN

I never once thought I would get hooked on cameras but I’m a hopeless addict.  Each bigger, badder, better Canon camera that hits the shelves, I yearn for and start saving my money like crazy until I can lay cash down on the table for it at our  PRO PHOTO SUPPLY

BELOW I’VE EMBEDDED A NUMBER OF RESOURCES , REVIEWS AND IMAGES OF THE 7D

This baby is not a point and shoot by any means but worth the big learning curve

My CANON 40D is not that old but I just keep wanting to move ahead with my photography, and my special needs with my eyes were a perfect match to this new and innovative auto focus system on the 7D.  Wow I’m glad I got it now before we go on our next vacation.  It will take me a couple of months to program all the customizable “bells and whistles” . I”m so excited I can hardly stand it!

My  trusty 40 D will now be hanging off one shoulder with my macro or wide angle lens, the new 7D over the other with my zoom.  Now I need to start saving for a tag along masseuse to keep my shoulders in shape to carry these cameras, gear, my stick and a backpack.  If I fall over I’ll be like a turtle on it’s back!

My dear girl Meg, taken with the new 7D

My Banana Tree August 2010 Portland Oregon

There is nothing like going a little bananas over the weekend is there??   Check this out you guys.  The ABOVE image is of my banana tree taken today  and below is around September LAST year.  Wow did this tree grow  a ton this season!

Considering the banana trees are cut to the ground every November  this is an incredible feat of botanical magic.  I do help it along with some awesome Bat Guano and bone meal…the same as what I feed the cannas which will bloom in a few weeks or so

You may have noticed some underlined text in the blog this time….well they are not just your average link!! These little morsels of trivia and interesting factoids I insert with a new program I installed to make my fact finding easier and more fun for you all!  Don’t miss the great garden video about growing cold hardy bananas which I inserted at the bottom of the banana trees link (above).

BELOW IS A SCREEN SHOT EXAMPLE OF THE LITTLE WINDOW  THAT POPS UP WHEN YOU CLICK ON UNDERLINED  LINKS

Note you can resize this window, drag it around the screen and if you click the question mark in the lower left you can set your preferences on how the windows behave. You can even make the windows pop up when you hover over the links but I have the defaut set to CLICK to enable the links.  Customize the way you want and the system will remember it next time you visit.

Clicking on any  of the links will keep you at the blog and pop up a little window like the one on this screenshot,  with all sorts of my hand chosen links and reference videos to expand your universe!!!

The main link in the window most times will have  other goodies which I inserted in a row at the bottom.  All open up in the popup so you never need to navigate away from the blog.

WAY FUN HUH????  This will be perfect for when I want to put up travel facts etc.

TO VIEW THE LITTLE WINDOWS LARGER THEY CAN BE RESIZED BY DRAGGING THE LOWER LEFT CORNER

Above are some photos I took today on our 60 degree morning walk in a local park full of mosses and lichens.  It’s kind of a boggy area and in the summer the mosses are quite dry…….but in winter they are an emerald vision!

And I’m sure you noticed by now the new banner at the blog homepage and the shopping cart icon!! I just installed a new website directly in GRAFFITI GOSSIP and on my FACEBOOK page as well.   Click on SHOP JEWELRY at the top of the page in the tabs to bring you to my store front!  It’s still being worked on but there are couple of gorgeous new sea inspired pieces in there already and my blog readers the first to see them!!

Let me know how the new site is working for you and I will have much more on the way.  I’m just getting all the categories into place now will announce more in my MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

Have a wonderful week my friends and I hope you have a wonderful week!!

If you had a chance to read the  SANDRA MILLER STUDIO AUGUST NEWSLETTER this week you know we are on the road again next week for  a trip to our stunning Oregon Coast!!

I am so excited and we are bringing you all along with us as well!  I am going to be making blog posts with lots of photos as well as attempting to LIVE STREAM video on my beach combing excursions.  We will see if that part works out as you never know what roadblocks can get in the way when technology and remote locations collide! We sure found that out when the GREAT FIRE WALL of China stopped our posts in Chengdu

One of my favorite things to do on my beach walks is to look for Beach Glass.  With my bad eyes I’m sure I miss most of those little “Meramaids Tears” that I pass by, but the fun is in the hunt.  And speaking of my limited vision…..one of lifes rare pleasures is for me to RUN on ta flat sandy  beach without my white cane.  There is no where else I can think of where I can move faster than a snail’s pace without fear of falling down steps, tripping on curbs, running into people accidentally or missing a pothole…..it is pure bliss for me and I am so looking forward to stretching my legs in the fresh salt air!!

BELOW IS A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SEAGLASS….LOOK FOR NEW DESIGNS COMING SOON INSPIRED BY THESE FROSTY OCEAN GEMS

ABOVE: SEAGLASS IN DIFFERENT COLORS…Wiki photo

Wikipedia Definition
Sea glass (or beach glass) is glass found on beaches along oceans or large lakes that has been tumbled and smoothed by the water and sand, creating small pieces of smooth, frosted glass. Sea glass originates from bottles and jars that enter the water as litter and become broken up by the waves and rocks. Green, clear, brown, and amber beach glass is common (consider the most common colors of beer-bottles), though light blues, yellows and pink varieties have also been known to appear. Much more rare are grey, purple, bright red, and the black varieties[1].

Red sea glass is found only once for every 5,000 pieces found, while the rarest of all seaglass, orange, can be found about once every 10,000 pieces. “Black” sea glass is rarely found and often originates from pre-1860 glass that is actually dark olive green. Some black sea glass is found around Australia, originating from 1940s beer bottles. Its rarity is due to the obscure materials that were used with glass to make the bottles, which increased its rate of decomposition.
