Happy May Day!
Posted on May 1st, 2008 by Sandra Miller in GARDENS, NEWSLETTERS

I love May!! It’s my birth month and this year will be my 50th gardening season so I’m trying to see it as how much I have grown both in spirt , plants and of course years…rather than seeing 50 as a terrible thing. The photo you see of the little girl is me…45 years ago in my dad’s garden in Owatonna MN. The seed doesn’t sprout too far from the flower does it? I know I’ve posted these pix before but just found them again today and thought they were May Day material! THANKS MOM for hanging onto these old images….they mean the world to me
For as long as I can remember I have considered the entire month of May to be my birthday. It’s a magical time where the ground is coming to life and old plant friends come back to say hello once more!!
I used to give out May baskets full of goodies but this year I guess it will just have to be a virtual May Basket to all my special friends and my family
Have a glorious day everyone….. Sandra

HAPPY SPRING MY FRIENDS!! I must apologize first for the long absence following my vacation. As usual it has been a hectic spring so far with these past 2 weeks setting me behind considerably My daughter Liz came out for a wonderful surprise visit from Minnesota and we spent a few days at the coast just hanging out and shopping. LIZ AT SPANISH HEAD BEACH IN OREGON Just before she arrived we lost one of our dear dear Chows very unexpectedly following a surgery. Little Magenta was , and will always be my #1 muse and house mouse. She followed me quietly like a shadow all day and even slept on our bed. For those of you who know Chows…bed sleeping is usually not something they like to do. Steve and I have our hearts literally broken in two but are relieved we still have our sweet Meg and Lily to comfort us and feel blessed we were given the gift of “Magenta” for the 6 perfect years that she graced us with her unconditional love and priceless antics. BELOW IS MAGENTA SLEEPING WITH HER BUNNY ON OUR BED…SIGH! Now on to some more upbeat news!!! You will see in the first photo above I have brought back my “Windcharms” but in a wonderful fused glass version!! These pieces are incredible and make the most beautiful wall and window art to fit unusual tight spaces. This beauty is covered with antique chandelier crystals and will be available on Ebay this week. A Chow version will be coming up later this week as well. These will be listed in a day or two along with some incredible pendants and necklaces!!! My kiln is full every day and I’m finally getting some finished pieces ready to list!!! Woooo Hooo!! Another bit of news…I bit the bullet and got a new camera!! I now am the proud owner of the Canon 40D DSLR!! The possibilities are endless with this baby and you will be seeing many new photographs available soon at my Imagekind gallery (link below) I will update when I have new prints listed!! Here is a link to the Genting Lion Dance competiton 10 years ago that I can spend hours at. Each link is a different part of the performances.
I am mesmerized by Lion Dancers. To coordinate two people under that heavy costume to do acrobatics on posts and wires..then top it off with having to do puppeteer work inside the lion on such a massive scale…I have great respect and admiration.
The gestures and mannerisms of the individual “lions” make me laugh out loud. You cannot help but smile watching lion dancing. The clanging festive music just adds to the excitement.
